Apple Watch Series 6: Review and Tech Specifications

Apple Watch series 6
Written by Nanuduke

Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 6 during its September special event. The new generation of Apple Watch keeps the same design as the Series 4 and Series 5 models, but with internal improvements and new finishes — including the addition of an oximeter sensor.

The Series 6 replaces Apple Watch Series 5 with improvements over last year’s models. This year’s Apple Watch is very similar to previous models, and it’s available in 40mm and 44mm with an always-on Retina display.

Blood oxygen levels between 95% and 100% are considered healthy; blood oxygen levels below 80% may lead to compromised heart and brain functionality. Risk of respiratory or cardiac arrest is common after continued low blood oxygen saturation. If Apple Watch detects a blood oxygen level below a certain threshold, it will trigger a notification for the user.

The Series 6 comes with the new S6 chip, with faster performance and new sensors, including an improved altimeter. It also comes with several new watch faces, including a new Memoji theme.

One of the new sensors it includes is the U1 chip. The U1 chip uses positioning tech known as an Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio that provides precise location and spatial awareness, so a U1-equipped device can detect its exact position relative to other devices in the same room.

The Series 6 is the first Apple Watch to support 5GHz Wi-Fi, which was an omission that had started to frustrate some users. Apple also indicates that the new Apple Watch Series 6 will charge 20% faster than the Series 5. This is especially notable given that many Apple Watch users will be looking for faster charging in conjunction with sleep tracking.

Apple Watch Series 6 Colors

Apple no longer offers the Series 6 in stainless steel space black, unless you opt for the Hermès model with the Double Tour band. Instead, Apple has a stainless steel graphite option for the Apple Watch Series 6 that looks similar, but slightly lighter.  The Series 6 is also offered in blue, gold, silver, space gray, or (Product) Red.
